Interview en octobre 2022
Lors de la tournée Cornucopia, son discours est diffusé à la fin des concerts (avant le rappel).
My name is Greta Thunberg, I’m 16 years old and I’m a planet activist from Sweden, and since August last year, I’ve been school striking for the climate every Friday outside the Swedish parliament, and since then, millions of children from all around the world have done the same.
Many people say that Sweden is just a small country, and that it doesn’t matter what we do, but I’ve learnt that you are never too small to make a difference, and if a few children can get headlines all over the world just by not going to school, then imagine what we could all do together, if we really wanted to.
But to do that we have to speak clearly, no matter how uncomfortable that may be. Our leaders only speak of green eternal economic growth because they are just scared of being unpopular, they keep talking about moving forward with the same bad ideas, they got us into this mess, even when the only sensible thing to do is to pull the emergency brake. The adults are not mature enough to tell it like it is, even that burden they leave to us children.
But I don’t care about being popular, I care about climate justice and the living planet, we are about to sacrifice our civilization, for the opportunity of a very small number of people to continue making unimaginable amounts of money. The biosphere is being sacrificed so that rich people in countries like mine can live in luxury, but it’s just the sufferings of the many which pays for the luxuries of the few.
The year 2078 I would celebrate my 75th birthday, if I have children maybe they would spend that day with me, maybe they will ask me about you, maybe they would ask why you didn’t do anything, while there still was time to act. You say you love your children above all else and yet you’re stealing their future in front of their very eyes. Until you start focusing on what needs to be done rather than what is politically possible, there is no hope. We cannot solve the crisis without treating it as a crisis. We need to keep the fossil fuels in the ground, and we need to focus on equity, and if the solutions within this system are so impossible to find, then maybe we should change the system itself. We will not beg our leaders to care, they have ignored us in the past and they will ignore us again, they have run out of excuses and we are running out of time.
But I’m here to tell you that change is coming, whether they like it or not. The real power belongs to they people.
Thank you all and I hope you’ll enjoy your evening.Greta Thunberg

Björk à propos de Greta Thunberg
I’d like to celebrate that Greta Thunberg made it on the boat to New York. I want to encourage the prime ministers of the Scandinavian countries to announce an emergency situation and deal with global warming.
Dazed
She is extraordinary ! I can’t believe she recorded this message for me back in April. Strangely, in the US legal system, where the most resistance to the idea of global warming is, the only angle that could survive through the whole bureaucracy is children suing the government for having robbed them of their future. With Greta this point of view got a voice, a person. Obviously I also think she is outrageously strong and incorruptible.
