1994

I was in NY at the time doing some photography courses at School of Visual Arts, I was 21 yrs old. On that day, I think it was around may 1994, we were with a friend walking through Soho and we got into a place that I remember like "Manhattan Bistro", can’t remember the street name. I was as usual with my 35 mm camera loaded with black and white film hanging around my neck. I remember seeing someone entering and passing next to me, the first thing I saw was the tattoo on her upper left arm. I recognized it immediately, I knew it was Björk ! She was alone with a pencil and a notebook and sat quietly at the next table. She had recently released her album Debut, which I bought myself when I got to NY and listened to all the time. I remember hesitating for a moment to go take a photo of her, because I am usually very shy and also I didn’t want to disturb her, but finally I took courage and approached. I introduced myself and asked if I could take some photos. She said ok very kindly. So I took as many as I could, 8 or 9 photographs. Then I thanked her and said I hoped she could come one day to do a show in Buenos Aires. I will never forget how kind she was to me, shook my hand and said "Very pleased to meet you". That was one of the best days of my stay in NY, and surely one that I will never forget.
