Né au Pays-Bas, Anton Corbijn est un photographe, réalisateur de clips et de films. Dès la fin des années 70, il travaille pour les revues Oor et NME. Il est connu pour avoir immortalisé les groupes de rock les plus emblématiques, David Bowie, Joy Divison, Mick Jagger, U2, Nirvana. Il photographie également les grandes stars du cinéma et du show business, mais il reste fidèle au monde musical. Son immersion est totale avec la création de décors de tournées, pochettes d’album, affiches et vidéos, notamment pour Depeche Mode. Au début des années 90, c’est donc naturellement qu’il passe derrière la caméra, avec la réalisation de clips, notamment One de U2, My Friends des Red Hot Chili Peppers et la quasi intégralité de ceux de Depeche Mode.
En 2007, Anton Corbijn revient à ses débuts en mettant en scène dans le film Control la vie de Ian Curtis, le leader du groupe Joy Division.

She’s anything but beautiful, though Bjork is an exceptionally beautiful woman. Since she’s holding her breath, her cheeks have expanded like a chipmunk’s ; as a result, her eyes are almost closed, slits. She’s sitting against a wall, whose surface looks like wood, on a mass of long, long grass, in a long white ballerina skirt and a white bra. Nothing else. The grass is her throne. Facial grimace, gorgeous ballerina skirt, plain white bra, wild nature : How do these elements connect ? They don’t. For this reason, this photo is truly strange and romantic.

Anecdote
Björk’s lived full-time in London for three years now, three years of elevation from one-time Icelandic punk obscurity to charismatic creator of sublime, sensual pop music securing her place as global pop-icon. These days she copens tunes for Madonna (Bedtime Stories) and drinks with Michael Stipe and Anton Corbijn. You get the impression, however, that she’d be just as happy in the pub in Southall with the Indian grandads talking about cricket.
